Adrenal Cancer

What is the adrenal gland?

There are two triangular shaped adrenal glands, one above each kidney in the back of the upper abdomen. They produce sex hormones and cortisol and are responsible for regulating our immune system and stress response.

What is adrenal cancer?

Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a malignant tumor of the adrenal gland and is a very rare cancer that affects both children and adults. This form of cancer is most common in people in their 30’s and 40’s. Due to it’s positioning, the small size of the tumor and the fact that many patients with this cancer have no symptoms, ACC is often diagnosed late and very possibly after the cancer has spread to surrounding tissue, the lymphatic system, blood, or other organs.
